Abstract

The main problem of this study is that students' mathematical thinking ability is still very low. This study seeks to understand whether students' mathematical skills can be improved through mathematical problem-based learning. This study is an experimental study using a pre-experimental design and a set of pretest-posttests. The sample of this study is the students of class VIII.2, a total of 26 sudents. Samples were obtained using cluster random sampling techniques. Data collection techniques included mathematical reasoning test sheets and observation sheets of student learning activities. The findings concluded that students' math skills improved after learning based on math problems for SMP students. Therefore, if problem-based mathematics learning is repeated in the classroom, students' mathematical
thinking skills will of course improve, which in turn will lead to improvements in HOTS skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and students' creative and innovative skills , also gain improvement.
