Abstract

Utilization of sawdust, which comes from wood processing factories will be used as a substitute for fine aggregate in the manufacture of concrete. This study aims to determine the effect of sawdust waste on the compressive strength, flexural strength, workability and specific gravity of concrete. In this study using an experimental method, with direct experiments in the laboratory. From the results of research that has been done substitution of fine aggregate in the concrete mixture, for the compressive strength of concrete at the age of 28 days of concrete with variations of 0% (normal concrete), 2%, 3%, and 4%, respectively 27,176 MPa, 25,572 MPa, 25,100 MPa, 24,817 MPa. Indicates a decrease in the compressive strength of normal concrete. Meanwhile, the average flexural strength at the age of 28 days with 0% variation (normal concrete) is 3,733 MPa, 2% variation is 5,466 MPa, variation 3 is 6,000 MPa, and 4% variation is 6,933 MPa. It shows that the more sawdust, the flexural strength of the concrete also increases. The level of ease of workability is quite easy in the process, there is no separation, the air cavities are reduced and the concrete hardens well. The results of the research for the specific gravity of concrete show that the normal variation of cylindrical concrete values is 2297 Kg/m3, 2% variation averages 2267 Kg/m3, 3% variation averages 2253 Kg/m3, 4% variation averages 2254 Kg/m3. for normal variation beam 2444 Kg/m3, variation beam 2% 2369 Kg/m3, variation beam 3% 2359 Kg/m3, variation beam 4% 2337 Kg/m3.
